Cloud Wine

Just as we know not to judge a book by its cover, connoisseurs have learned not to judge a wine by its label, unless, of course, it is the label on the First Growth wine of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, where an exceptional array of artists, including Jean Cocteau, Salvador Dali and Henry Moore have designed labels for the wine grower. Cloud Wine holds a tongue-in-cheek label from Moorcroft's Kerry Goodwin, where the label is, in fact, not label at all.

If truth be known, the fine 2024 vintage is not wine, but something even more special Ð creativity and heritage. In much the same way as a folly creates the nostalgia of a long-lost fairy-tale, Cloud Wine, has never been corked. Like Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Moorcroft has a magnificent vineyard. For the winery, the richness of the gravel and clay makes a natural home for Cabernet Sauvignon, the premier grape for what he world's best vineyards. Owners may have come and gone, but those vineyards remain treasured. And so it is with Moorcroft. Its unique form, heritage and craft techniques, handed down from one generation to the next, means that it will remain a national treasure.

Whilst succulent vines are the darling of still-life paintings, symbolizing life's transience, grapes and vines also offer an abundance of other themes in art, including sensuality, fruitfulness, kingship, riches, fertility and as for wine itself, new beginnings and sacred covenants. The representation of vines in Moorcroft art pottery go back to some of William Moorcroft's earliest and most iconic designs: Grapes for Liberty & Co in 1906; and his iconic Pomegranate, featuring succulent, rich, burgundy grapes - one of the first designs to flow out of our colossal bottle oven in 1914 with a band of fruit against a mottled green and ochre ground.
