These unique characters each hold important significance in Merrythought's long-standing history. Greyfriars Bobby appeared on the introductory page of Merrythought's inaugural 1931 catalogue. Believed to be the first dog ever designed by Merrythought, this characterful companion was inspired by Eleanor Atkinson's celebrated novel, 'Greyfriars Bobby'. This 1912 British classic tells the heart-warming tale of a loyal Skye Terrier who was devoted to his owner, John Gray, who passed away on 15 February 1858. Until his own passing many years later, Bobby slept upon his masterÕs grave in Greyfriars churchyard, and became renowned as 'the hero of the most charming dog story ever written'.
Merrythought's beloved soft toy version was created by their inaugural designer, Florence Attwood and this true-to-original Greyfriars Bobby replica has been made using the same traditional skills and materials.
Lovingly hand-crafted from the finest vintage-style tipped mohair plush, this endearing recreation perfectly captures Bobby's timeless character, and is finished with the recognisable Royal Stewart Tartan bow.

Each character in Merrythoughts Heritage Collection, features an authentic replica of their earliest hygienic toys label, and has been individually numbered as a Special Edition.
Presented in a pure cotton dust bag with a Certificate of Authenticity.
