Nicola noticed a lavender-blue to purple dwarf iris, with a band of yellow on the falls, blooming from winter to Easter tide and was swept away by its sheer beauty. The iris, with its striking regal colours and delicate form, surely stands as a testament to the divine artistry that surrounds us. In the Christian faith, the iris represents our lady of sorrows, with its sword like leaves: “And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted; And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed." Shrouded in purple, Nicola’s irises nod graciously, to bring joy to our world, while below them late snowdrops bow their heads in deference to the joyous irises above.
