More than any other room, the Mackintosh Rose Boudoir serves as the perfect model for the couple’s allegorical interest in romantic love. Created in1902 for the International Exhibition of Modern Art in Turin, the room has had scholars grasping to interpret meaning. The Moorcroft designer uses a classic Moorcroft candlestick to showcase their rose and feathered motifs and distinctive Mackintosh black linework, perfect for Moorcroft’s raised heritage tubelining in jet-black clay slip, around the foot.
As the ephemeral lady rises the stem, she becomes an eternal flame of contemplative love. Wrapped in red hues, a lit candle will cast a soft glow around, to create a design in honour of a creative couple that were passionately in love with each other.
